About Brunswick Alumnae Chapter

The birth of the Brunswick Alumnae Chapter was the result of tireless efforts by a few sorors in the community, especially Soror Merline McCloud as contact person and Soror Lila Brown. Their desire was to continue the work of their beloved sisterhood in the area where they lived. The Chapter was officially chartered on November 8, 1958 in Brunswick, Georgia. Soror Thelma Cobb, Past Southern Regional Director welcomed the new Chapter into the bonds of Delta. Also in attendance was Founder Winona Cargile Alexander. The chapter serves the following counties: Glynn, McIntosh, and Camden.
The Chapter has served the community well within the Five Point Thrust Program. Many activities have been completed since 1958. Some of which were School America, radio broadcasts during Black History month, Career Day Programs, Teen Lift projects, a comprehensive Nursing Home Program involving partnering with other Greek organizations, establishment of a mini eyeglass bank, involvement with Census Reporting, instrumental in the organization of and continued membership with the Coastal Georgia Pan Hellenic Council and partnership with University of Georgia Small Business Development.
Programs instituted include Partners in Education, Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy and Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS, Addy Reading Program, collaboration with the Keep Brunswick and the Golden Isles Beautiful and the local Amity House (shelter for battered women and children), our Annual Grits and Issues Community Breakfast Forum and collaboration with the Glynn County Historic 2007 March Against Violence. E.M.B.O.D.I. was implemented in 2011.
The Jabberwock was presented to help fund our service area scholarships including the Catherine M. Cooper and Anne B. Fuller Memorial scholarships to students in the field of education at the College of Coastal Georgia.
